Proto-Germanic
Etymology
Unclear. Probably from demonstrative *sa + an unclear suffix, possibly an earlier *-no or *-ne. But it could also continue Proto-Indo-European *tóm, whence also Latin tum.
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /θɑn/
Descendants
Some of the daughter languages show extension with *þannai (West Germanic), and *þananē (West and North Germanic).
