Etymology

Uncertain; possibly from Proto-Indo-European *úǵtr-o-s, from *uǵ-tḗr ~ *uǵ-trés + *-os, from *weǵ- (to be strong) + *-tḗr, or perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *ūsros (aurochs) (compare Proto-Germanic *ūraz), of BMAC substrate origin[1].
