From Proto-Balto-Slavic *brouk-ei-, *brouś-ei-, iterative of the verb *brouk-, *brouś- (whence Latvian bràukt, Lithuanian braũkti), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰrouḱ-. Cognate with Latvian braũcît, Lithuanian braukýti.
