Etymology
From earlier *piskělь, from *piskati, *piščati (“squeak, whistle”) + *-ělь, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *pīṣk-. According to Derksen, it's best to posit an onomatopoetic root *pī- followed by the suffix *-sk-.
