Indo-European cognates include Sanskrit श्वेत (śveta, white, bright), Avestan 𐬯𐬞𐬀𐬉𐬙𐬀 (spaēta, white), Proto-Germanic *hwītaz (white), Sanskrit श्वित्र (śvitra, white), Old Persian [script needed] (spiθra, white). Cognate with English white.
