Etymology
From Proto-Slavic *světъ (“world”) + *-iti, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *śwaitī́ˀtei, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱweyt-. Cognate with Lithuanian švaitýti (according to Snoj: both are of secondary origin).
