Proto-Uralic

Etymology

One of the words limited to the traditional Finno-Ugric group. Contrast Proto-Samoyedic *ërö (autumn) (from Proto-Uralic *ëde (year)).

Reconstruction

The Samic and Khanty reflexes show an assimilation *s-ś > *ś-ś; compare also e.g. *sańśa- (to stand). A number of forms including Finnic and Udmurt suggest a parallel or extended form *sükeśe.

Noun

*sükśe

  1. autumn
