Borrowed from Italian tazza, itself borrowed from Arabic طاس (ṭās, “bowl, cup”), borrowed from Middle Persian tšt' (tašt, “bowl”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *tetḱ- (“to create; to cut”).
