From Arabic الرَّيْحَان (ar-rayḥān, literally “the scentful”), from رِيحَة (rīḥa, “aroma, wind”), from راح (rāḥ). Note as well that in modern Arabic رَيْحان (rayḥān) means “basil” and that the Arabic for “myrtle” is آس (ʾās).
