Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish آياقلو (ayaqlu), آياقلی (ayaqlı, possessed of a foot, having legs, legged, footed, movable), from earlier *aδaqlïɣ, from Proto-Turkic *adak-lïg (having legs). Equivalent to ayak (paw, foot) + -lı. Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰑𐰴𐰞𐰍 (adaqlïɣ, footed), Old Uyghur ʾʾdʾqlyγ (adaqlïɣ, legged), Karakhanid اَذَقْلِغْ (aδaqlïɣ, possesing legs).
