Pronunciation
- IPA(key): [beˈlæ]
- Hyphenation: be‧lə
Etymology 1
From Old Anatolian Turkish [script needed] (böyle), which is attested in the XIVth-century Anatolian epic Danishmendnâme. Origination from merging of bu (“this”) and ile, ilə (“with”) (thus, from an expression that had the meaning with it) has been suggested[1]. Starostin et al. reject this with a reference to a proposed Proto-Turkic form *bEd-le [2], which they reconstruct with the support of Karakhanid [script needed] (böyle)[3], Turkish böyle, Turkmen beýle and Azerbaijani belə, that is, based almost exclusively on Oghuz material.
