Etymology
From an earlier form eylə (now superseded). Possibly ultimately from merging of the earlier forms of o (“that”) and ile, ilə (“with”)[1][2]. Cognate with Karakhanid اَیْلا (ayla, eyle) and اَیْلُقْاَیْلُقْ (ayluq-ayluq, ayloq-ayloq), which Kashghari marks as Oghuz words[3]. Also cognate with Kipchak alay, Turkish öyle, Turkmen eýle. Not cognate with Turkish öğle (“noon”) Tatar өйлә (öylä, “noon”). See belə for more.
