From Proto-Germanic *biraubōną. Equivalent to be- + rēafian. Cognate with Old Saxon birōvōn, Old High German biroubon, Gothic 𐌱𐌹𐍂𐌰𐌿𐌱𐍉𐌽 (biraubōn).
