beseffen
Dutch
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /bəˈsɛfən/
audio (file) - Hyphenation: be‧sef‧fen
- Rhymes: -ɛfən
Etymology 1
From Middle Dutch beseffen, from Old Dutch *biseffen, from bi- + *seffen. The latter part is from Proto-Germanic *sabjaną.
Usage notes
Beseffen is not reflexive, but occasionally it is wrongly used reflexively: zich beseffen. This is probably a contamination of zich realiseren (“to realize”), with the same meaning, but reflexive.
