From older cascun, from Old Occitan cascun, (cf. the form chascun), from Vulgar Latin *cascunum or *casquunum, a conflation of Latin quisque unum ("each one") and *catunum, from cata (<Ancient Greek κατά (katá)) unum. Or from a crossing of cada and Old Catalan quiscun. Compare Occitan cadun, chascun, French chacun, Italian ciascuno.
