Etymology

csempész (smuggler) + -ik (verb-forming suffix). First attested in 1843. Created during the Hungarian language reform which took place in the 18th–19th centuries, patterned after halász (fisherman) - halászik (to fish), vadász (hunter) - vadászik (to hunt).[1]
