Irish
Etymology
From Middle Irish dubart, from Old Irish as·rubart, perfect of as·beir.
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /d̪ˠuːɾʲtʲ/
Usage notes
Like all d-initial forms of abair, this term is immune to lenition and does not undergo eclipsis after the interrogative particle an. Like many irregular verbs, this past-tense form takes the preverbal particles normally associated with non-past tenses (ní, an, go, etc., rather than níor, ar, gur).
