hellen

See also: Hellen

Dutch

Etymology

From Middle Dutch helden, from Old Dutch *helden, from Proto-Germanic *halþijaną. The loss of the d occurred by reanalysis of the past tense form helde as consisting of hel-de rather than held-de.
