kaakko
Finnish
Etymology
Cognate to Estonian kagu (“south-east”) and Ingrian kakkoi (“south-east”). Possibly related to kaakkuri, in which case the cardinal direction meaning could derive from a meaning like "the direction where migratory birds come from".
Pronunciation
- IPA(key): /ˈkɑːkːo/, [ˈkɑːkːo̞]
