lejn
Maltese
Etymology
From Arabic إِلَى (ʾilā). The -ej- is due to backformation from the personal forms (Arabic stem ʾilay-), while the final -n was added by analogy with the dual suffix -ejn, which builds its personal forms in the same fashion; compare lejn → lejja, lejk with għajnejn (“eyes”) → għajnejja, għajnejk, etc.
