From Vulgar Latin *māchināre, from Latin māchinārī, present active infinitive of māchinor, whence also Friulian machinâ (a borrowed doublet), Venetian masnar, maxenar, Italian macinare, Dalmatian macnur, Romanian măcina, Sicilian macinari, Spanish maznar.
