From Proto-Tai *ʰmoːkᴰ (“fog”), from Old Chinese 霧 (OC *moɡs, “fog; mist”).[1] Cognate with Thai หมอก (mɔ̀ɔk), Lao ໝອກ (mǭk), Shan မွၵ်ႇ (mòak), Ahom 𑜉𑜨𑜀𑜫 (mok), Saek ม̄อก.
