From Old Swedish (i.e. a loanword before 1541), originally from a Celtic word, cognate with French ruche (“beehive”) and German Reuse (“fish-trap”)
Usage notes
- One of very few words where the sh sound is spelled ssj. The other two are hässja and ässja.
