From Proto-Mon-Khmer *sur() ~ *suurʔ ~ *suər() (bag); cognate with Muong thủl (bag), Proto-Katuic *sɔɔr (sheath) (whence Pacoh xor), Central Nicobarese ken-hōṅa (small bag, pocket) and Proto-Palaungic *suur.
