Etymology
From Proto-Mon-Khmer *sur() ~ *suurʔ ~ *suər() (“bag”); cognate with Muong thủl (“bag”), Proto-Katuic *sɔɔr (“sheath”) (whence Pacoh xor), Central Nicobarese ken-hōṅa (“small bag, pocket”) and Proto-Palaungic *suur.
