Etymology
From uz- (“on, over”) + balss (“voice”) + -enis, i.e., that which is above the balsene (“larynx”), clearly a calque of New Latin epiglottis, from Ancient Greek ἐπί (epí, “upon, over”) and γλῶττα, γλῶσσα (glôtta, glôssa, “tongue”) (with a masculine ending).
