Cognate to Ancient Greek ἑκυρός (hekurós, “father-in-law”), German Schwieger(vater) 'father-in-law', Old English sweor, Latin socer, Russian свёкор (svjókor), Serbo-Croatian svekar, Sanskrit श्वशुर (śvaśura), Armenian սկեսուր (skesur)[1].
