Clinical Immunization Safety Assessment (CISA) Network -Historical Background 2001-2012

In 2001, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) funded the Clinical Immunization Safety Assessment (CISA) Network to address the unmet vaccine safety clinical research needs of the United States.

The CISA Network consisted of the CDC’s Immunization Safety Office, six medical research centers with expertise in immunization, and America's Health Insurance Plans.

In 2012, CDC implemented a new contract for the CISA activities, entitled the CISA Project. The CISA Project continues and builds on the mission and goals of the CISA Network.

Peer Review

In December 2010, CDC convened an External Peer Review of the Division of Healthcare Quality Promotion (DHQP) Surveillance Branch, to assess the scientific contributions of CISA. The primary focus of this meeting was to determine how CISA Network goals fit within the public health mission of CDC and ISO.
