How to Make Gay Friends

Attend an LGBTQ organization, sports team, or meet-up.  You'd like to be a part of a group of queer people that have similar interests. Perhaps it's a sport, singing, or video games. There are a few websites that list specialized LGBTQ meet-ups, but honestly, simply Google your hobby, city, and the word "gay" and see what comes up.

Start something. Something should be started. Perhaps you enjoy birdwatching, motocross, fiber arts, or molecular gastronomy and would like to share your passion with other LGBTQ folks?  Why don't you try forming a group? Post notices in general birding, biking, and crocheting areas to let folks know you'd like to enjoy your pastime with gay company.

Try forums and chat rooms. Assume you can't discover any other LGBTQ folks in your community who share your interests. One of the million reasons why the internet exists is to allow you to connect with people all around the world.^[1] Go to an online forum , where you'll find a discussion on almost any topic you can think of. If you can't find what you're looking for, start your own discussion group.

Participate in pride parades. Every year, one to two significant festivals are held in most larger cities. Find out when the next one is near you by using a search engine. Carnival days are common, with stalls set up by a large variety of social clubs, sports groups, resources, and support networks. Participate in the stalls that interest you! Even just conversing with people who happen to be on the web might be enjoyable.

Attend concerts. Play the odds in your favor by checking out bands you know will attract your type of crowd. Talk to others in line, at the march counter, or in the bar while waiting for support acts. Say hello to everyone because you're all there for the same reason.
