If you collect gemstones for a personal collection or use crystals for their believed healing properties, you can easily store them on your person, throughout your home, or for traveling. Carry a few in your pocket, place them in a velvet pouch, or arrange them on your altar. Choose a display case if you have specimens you want to show off, or use drawers if you need a lot of space. With some attention to detail and organization, you can easily store your crystals.

Method 1 of 3:

Deciding How to Organize Your Crystals

  1. 1
Sort your crystals based on if they are tumbled, raw, or fragile. An easy and efficient way to separate your crystals is by their finishing method. Some crystals have a shiny, smooth outside, and they go through a polishing process to tumble them. Raw crystals refer to stones that are not tumbled and still look as if they came out of the ground. Separate your crystals based on these categories before you place them in your storage solution.
    • In addition, some crystals such as Selenite or Labradorite are really sensitive and can break easily.
    • For instance, you can place all of your tumbled stones in a box and put your raw specimens on a bookshelf.
  2. 2
Group crystals based on color or chakra to work with a certain energy. If you collect crystals to use for their healing potential, you may find it helpful to group your crystals by color. Make a pile for any red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, clear/white, and black crystals. This way, you can easily pick out a perfect stone to use during your healing session.
    • For example, if you want to feel more grounded and secure, select a piece of garnet to use while you’re meditating.
    • To increase clarity and focus, pick a piece of quartz to keep on your body throughout the day.

Organize your crystals based on type and or size for uniform options. If you have a few favorite types of crystals and have several in your collection, it may work best for you to sort your collection based on individual crystal type. You can also arrange your crystals based on size. Put the large crystals toward the back, and place the small ones along the front.
    • For instance, do this if you have a lot of amethyst, tourmaline, or smoky quartz.

Storing Crystals for Everyday Use

  1. 1
Carry stones in your pocket or in your purse to keep them with you. To admire or work with your crystals throughout the day, place 1-3 tumbled stones in your pocket or in a secure part of your purse. This way, they are close by and you can use them as you wish.[1]
  2. 2
Adorn your altar with crystals to create a sacred space. If you work with healing crystals, set up self-care space in a private spot in your home. This can be a small end table or desk adorned with sacred or spiritual items, such as candles, incense, crystals, and tarot cards. Place 3-10 or so crystals you work with regularly on your altar space so you can easily access them.[3]
  3. 3
Place a few crystals along your windowsill so they can charge. If you use crystals for healing, you want to cleanse and charge them once or twice a month. A great way to do this is to arrange some of your crystals along a windowsill 1-3 days before the next full moon cycle.[6]
    • Leave the crystals on the windowsill for 1-3 days after the full moon so they can absorb as much energy as possible.
    • This is a great short-term storage method.
  4. 4
Store stones by your bedside table to keep them nearby. Some crystal healers believe that keeping stones near you when you sleep can help in the healing process. Place some of your favorites on your bedside table, such as onyx to repel negative energy, rose quartz to promote self-love, and amethyst to increase psychic abilities.[7]
    • Display 1-5 or so crystals on your end table.
  5. 5
Keep your crystals in a bag or pouch if you are traveling. If you are going on vacation or traveling for work, consider bringing a few of your favorite crystals with you. They may provide a grounding or soothing presence on your trip. To keep your crystals safe, place 5-15 or so in a velvet pouch. Tie the pouch at the top so your crystals don’t fall out.
  6. 6
Wrap fragile crystals in a silk scarf or tissue paper to keep them safe. If you have any crystals that can easily scratch, such as fluorite, opal, calcite, hematite, or amethyst, wrap each stone in a piece of tissue paper, bubble wrap, or silk before you place it in the pouch. This way, the stones do not get scratched or damaged.[9]
    • If you are unsure if a crystal is fragile or not, wrap it just in case. This way, they will stay in great shape no matter what.

Arranging Crystals Around Your Home

  1. 1
Place your crystals on a bookshelf for an easy and convenient option. If you just started collecting crystals and want a neat and attractive way to store them, designate a shelf on your bookcase. Clear the shelves of books, dust, or debris, and place your crystals along the shelf based on your organizational method.[10]
    • You can organize the crystals based on color, size, type, or finish.
  2. 2
Put your crystals in a display case to show off your favorite treasures. A display case is a great idea if you have quite the number of crystals and want to showcase some of your favorites. Place the display case in your living room, bedroom, or basement. Fill each shelf in your display case with crystals, based on your organizational method. This way, you can easily see and access your collection.
    • To get rid of dust or debris, wipe down the shelves and doors with a glass cleaner.
  3. 3
Choose a box to store your crystals if you don’t have much room. Keep stones that you don’t use daily inside chests or boxes for an effective storage method. Pick a wooden or stone box that speaks to you, such as an antique chest or carved detailed piece. Place several stones into the box, based on its overall size.
    • Use a large box to keep a collection of crystals, and place this on a desk or shelf for instance.
    • Or, pick a small box to house a few stones near your bed or desk.
  4. 4
Select a chest with drawers to keep your crystals safe and organized. You can pick a chest in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and styles. If you have a large collection, consider getting a large unit to house them. If you have a small crystal collection, you can use a tabletop chest. Line the bottom of the drawer with cotton to protect the stones from moving. Then, place the crystals into each section.
    • For extra protection, place your crystals in jewelry boxes so they are separate and neat.

Crystals break easily. When storing them at my office, I have displays and shelves that I leave them out on. After each session, I like to clear my Crystals in a salt bath and with smoke before returning them to their shelves.
