Central District (Rigan County)

The Central District of Rigan County (Persian: بخش مرکزی شهرستان ریگان) is in Kerman province, Iran. Its capital is the city of Mohammadabad. Prior to the establishment of the district within the county, its constituent parts were in Bam County.[3]

At the National Census in 2011, its population was 46,150 in 12,201 households.[4] At the latest census in 2016, the district had 62,433 inhabitants in 16,468 households.[2]

In 2019, the villages of Abbasabad-e Sardar and Rahmatabad were elevated to the status of cities.[5] In 2023, Gonbaki District was separated from the county in the establishment of Gonbaki County and divided into two districts and four rural districts, with the city of Gonbaki as its capital and only city. At the same time, Posht-e Rig Rural District was established in the Central District, and Sadabad Rural District was established in the newly formed Rahmatabad District.[6]
