List of Metro Transit (St. Louis) yards and depots
Metro Transit, the public transit operator in the Greater St. Louis area, operates two rail yards for the MetroLink light rail system, four bus depots for the MetroBus and Metro Call-A-Ride systems, and one streetcar barn for the Loop Trolley.
Rail facilities
Metro operates two rail yards that maintain its SD-400 and SD-460 light rail vehicles and one streetcar barn for the Loop Trolley:
Ewing Yard
Ewing Yard (also known as Jefferson Avenue Yard) is located near downtown St. Louis. It is bounded by Jefferson Avenue to the west, Scott Avenue to the north, Ewing Avenue to the east, and Terminal Railroad right-of-way to the south.
The yard opened in 1993. It was built on a former railroad storage and maintenance facility that served Union Station until it closed in 1978.[1]
29th Street Yard
29th Street Yard (also known as Jackie Joyner-Kersee Yard) is located in East St. Louis, Illinois.
The yard opened in 2001 with the St. Clair County MetroLink extension. It sits on reclaimed industrial property along abandoned right-of-way from the St. Louis and O'Fallon Railway.[2] On October 27, 2009, Metro opened a paint booth at the facility at a cost of $1.1 million.[3]
Bus depots
Metro Transit operates four garages for MetroBus:[6]
Brentwood Garage
The Brentwood garage, located in central St. Louis County, charges and maintains electric buses after service hours.[7]
Central Garage
Metro's Central garage, located near downtown St. Louis, also houses one of its primary dispatch centers and is the main facility for Metro's Call-A-Ride service. It sits on the former site of the Red Stocking Baseball Park.
DeBaliviere Garage
The DeBaliviere garage is a former outdoor streetcar yard that was covered and converted for use by buses sometime after the Bi-State Development Agency ended streetcar service in the St. Louis area in 1966.[8] It also has after-hours charging stations for electric buses.[9]
Illinois Garage
The Illinois garage is roughly 1.4 miles (2.3 km) from the 29th Street rail yard in East St. Louis. It serves buses that run on routes sponsored by St. Clair County Transit District.
