Meena (மீனா) is an 2023 Indian Tamil-language television series, starring Indhu Chowdhary and Jay Srinivasa Kumar. The show directed by Muthukumarasamy and produced by Selvi Thiyagarajan and G.Saravanan under the banner of Sathya Jyothi Films and Sun Entertainment.

Synopsis

It is a Family melodrama about a Two close friends, Chidambaram (Viknesh) and Sathyamoorthy (Abhishek Shankar), carry a 25-year-old grudge against each other. What happens when Meena steps in as the village school teacher and vows to re-unite them for the well-being of the people there?

Production

Development

After the ending of the Sun TV drama 'Thirumagal', its Production Company Sathya Jyothi Films decide to produce Meena, to be produced by Selvi Thiyagarajan and G.Saravanan under the banner of Sathya Jyothi Films.[2] Initially, the title of the serial was named Sabash Meena.[3] After some reasons the first promo was released in the name of as 'Meena' on 11 July 2023.[4]

The concept of the show was originally based on Vikraman's 1996 film Poove Unakkaga.[5]

Casting

Indhu Chowdhary was cast in the female lead role as Meena.[6] Sundari fame Jay Srinivasa Kumar plays the male lead alongside her. This making Indhu Chowdhary and Jay Srinivasa Kumar first lead role in Tamil television. Actor Jay Srinivasa Kumar to act in this series, he was quit from the series 'Ilakkiya' which airs on Sun TV.[7]

Abhishek Shankar was cast as Sathyamoorthy, marking his return after Pudhu Pudhu Arthangal. Vignesh was cast as Chidambaram, marking his return after Vaidhegi Kaathirundhaal. Actress Sonia[8] play of the role of Sathyamoorthy's wife and a mother struggling with two daughters.[9]

Release

The first promo was released on 11 July 2023 featuring Abhishek Shankar, Sonia, Viknesh, Minnal Deepa, Indhu Chowdhary and Jay Srinivasa Kumar.[10] The second promo was unveiled on 11 July 2023, featuring protagonist Indhu Chowdhary tell the story and revealing the release date.[11]

The show started airing on Sun TV on 24 July 2023 From Monday to Saturday at 12:00 (IST), replacing 'Thirumagal' Time slot.[12]
