Sedato (Persian: صداتو, English: Your Voice)[1] is an Iranian television mystery music game show based on South Korean programme I Can See Your Voice. It premiered on Filimo on 31 May 2023.[2]

Gameplay

Format

Presented with a group of six "mystery singers" identified only by their occupation, a contestant must attempt to eliminate bad singers from the group without ever hearing them sing, assisted by clues and a celebrity panel over the course of four rounds. At the end of the game, the last remaining mystery singer is revealed as either good or bad by means of performing itself,[lower-alpha 1] depending on contestant's choice.[2][5]

Rewards

The contestant must eliminate one mystery singer at the end of each round, receiving ﷼20,000,000 if they eliminate a bad singer. At the end of the game, the contestant may either end the game and keep the money they had won in previous rounds, or risk it for a chance to win ﷼200,000,000 by correctly guessing whether the last remaining mystery singer is good or bad.[6]

Rounds

Each episode presents the contestant with six people whose identities and singing voices are kept concealed until they are eliminated to perform on the "stage of truth" or remain in the end to perform the final duet.

  1. Lip sync (Persian: لیپ سینک)
    The mystery singers are divided into two groups of three, and participate in a lip sync performance to one song each.
  2. Unlock (Persian: آنلاک)
    The contestant are presented with a video package in which one of the mystery singers discusses their life and musical qualifications.
  3. Secret studio (Persian: استودیو مخفی)
    The contestant are presented with video from a recording session by one of the mystery singers, but pitch-shifted to obscure their actual vocals.
  4. Question and answer (Persian: سین جیم)
    The contestant may ask questions to the remaining mystery singers. Good singers are required to give truthful responses, while the bad singers must lie.

Background

Production and development

Sabaidea, an Iranian information technology company known for digital media products including video on demand platform Filimo, formally announced its development of the show in May 2023. The staff team is managed by producer and director Hamed Javadzadeh, alongside co-directors Fatemi Bagheri and Sayedmehdi Saidi.[7]

Naming and gameplay reformat

Initially, the tentative title for its Iranian counterpart is a full name and direct translation of I Can See Your Voice (Persian: من میتونم صداتو ببینم, romanized: Man mí-tunam sedato bebinam), but it was later renamed in shortened and simplified form as Your Voice (Persian: صداتو, romanized: Sedato).[1][8]

As a tradition, the game element on entirety of ICSYV franchise has been used by guest artist(s) for a duet alongside winning mystery singer; but it was omitted from the Iranian counterpart and remain with the contestant, thus it is the only ICSYV local adaptation to do so.[8][lower-alpha 1]

  1. Actually, the winning mystery singer can perform freely without accompanying the guest artist(s) for a duet.[3] This unique rule was introduced when bad singer Kim Joo-young did that in the eighth season of original South Korean counterpart.[4]
