Acanthocobitis Peters, 1861

Type species: Acanthocobitis longipinnis Peters, 1861

Etymology: From acanthus (= spine), referring to prominent spine under eyes of A. longipinnis, and cobitis, an ancient name for loach, derived from the Greek kobitis, a gudgeon.
