(January 1880; syntype: AK-AK8965), T.F. Cheeseman s.n. (January 1898; syntype: AK -AK8967, 'type' designated by Oliver 1935: 45; [possible iso]syntype: AK8966) and D. Petrie s.n. (syntypes: AK(-AK8968, -AK8969, -AK8970, -AK8971)).
Type locality: New Zealand. South Island:
- Townson: Nelson, Buller Gorge.
- Cheeseman (January 1883): Nelson, Clarence Valley [altitude 3500 feet].
- Cheeseman: Canterbury, Arthur's Pass [altitude 3000 feet, January 1880] and Mount Cook District.
  - January 1898, 'type' sensu Oliver (1935: 45): Hermitage, Mount Cook, altitude 2500 feet.
- Petrie: Otago, near Dunedin.
