Etymology

From ชัก (chák, to draw; to pull; to raise; etc) + ดาบ (dàap, sword), literally "to draw out a sword", from historical period dramas in which a martial artist orders and consumes food and usually refuses to pay the price by drawing out his sword to threaten the shop owner or worker who demands the payment.
