Note that in traditional Chinese, 嚙 is considered as a variant form of 齧 (same in meaning and usage but different in appearance) whereas in Japanese, 嚙 (shinjitai form: 噛) and 齧 (shinjitai form: 𪘂) are used differently in their compound words.
