Of native Korean origin. From the obsolete adjective 읻— (it-, “good, fine, exquisite, marvellous”) + (beu-, adjectival suffix) + (da). Perhaps related to 예쁘다 (yeppeuda).

This was recognised as standard in the Korean Standard Dictionary in 2015.
