From Proto-Uralic *-pa.

Reconstruction

Four allomorphs can be distinguished: *-pa, *-pä were used after stressed syllables, *-ba, *-bä after unstressed ones; *-pa, *-ba were used in words with back vowel harmony, *-pä, *-bä in words with front vowel harmony.
