Etymology
Equivalent to e-grade of Proto-Slavic *kuti (“to forge, to hew”) or *kujati (“to crook, to caw”) + *-kъ, at least partially of onomatopoeic origin. Per Snoj, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kew- (“to caw, to howl”), akin to Lithuanian kaũkti (“to howl”), Latvian kàukt (“to yell, to howl”), Proto-Germanic *hūwilōną (“to howl”).
