Proto-Slavic
Etymology
Most likely, a causative verb of *kỳta (“twig, adornment”) + *-iti, from the expressive Proto-Slavic *kyti (“to pound, to bash”) / Proto-Slavic *kyvati (“to nod, to wing, to take a look”)[1], ultimately either from Proto-Indo-European *kewh₂- (“to hew, to forge”) or from Proto-Indo-European *keh₁w- (“to flash, to swing”).
