Action/resultant noun of *kyti (to pound) + *-a[1], an expressive variant of Proto-Slavic *kuti (to forge, to hew), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *kewh₂- (to hew, to forge), or related to Proto-Slavic *kyvati (to nod, to wink, to take a look) / Proto-Slavic *kydati (to fling) from Proto-Indo-European *keh₁w- (to flash, to swing).
