From *perti + *-ťa. Alternatively compare Lithuanian pùrtyti, pùrtau.

- From *portiti + *-ja. For the meaning compare Serbo-Croatian посао (“job, work”) (< *posъlъ : *posъlati).
- Alternatively compare *porťa (“sling”) or Latin portō (“to carry, bear”), Ancient Greek πρᾱ́σσω (prā́ssō, “to do”)
