Possibly from Proto-Baltic [Term?], compare Lithuanian klienas (“thin, skinny”) and Latvian kliens (“thin, withered”). Cognate to Votic leinä (“grief”), Ingrian leina (“sadness”), and Finnish leina (“poor, weak, a poor crop yield”).
