sughița
Romanian
Etymology
From an earlier hypothetical form *sughiuța, from Vulgar Latin *suggluttiāre or *subgluttiare, probably from an alteration of Latin singultō, singultāre, from singultus. The (Vulgar) Latin was probably influenced by gluttiō, gluttīre (cf. înghiți). Compare Aromanian sugljits, sugljitsari, Sicilian sugghiuzzari, Spanish sollozar, Portuguese soluçar. Compare also Italian singhiozzare, from *singlutiāre, from singultāre, and also French sangloter.
Verb
a sughița (third-person singular present sughiță, past participle sughițat) 1st conj.
