Etymology
Possibly borrowed from Old Occitan jornada, from Medieval Latin diurnāta (“a day's work, a day's journey, a fixed day, a day”), from Latin diurnus (“daily”). Compare Spanish and Portuguese jornada, French journée, Italian giornata.
