STD Intervention for Supervisors (STDIS)
(CDC TRAIN Course ID 1037074)
Schedule:
There are currently no courses scheduled. Please check back periodically for updates. For information or questions, send an e-mail message to stdtraining@cdc.gov.
Registration: See instructions on how to apply through the CDC TRAIN system. All courses are free of charge to eligible participants who have been approved to attend by their managers; however, PDQIB cannot pay for any travel or per diem expenses associated with these courses.
Background: This four-day course is designed to develop supervisory technical skills in modeling, guiding, instructing, reviewing, and evaluating STD intervention activities. STDIS teaches how the First Line Supervisor (FLS) can best review and evaluate STD intervention activities, identify methods and steps to improve the DIS case management efforts, provide overall technical direction, and develop STD intervention skills. Since the emphasis of this course is on “how to” review, evaluate, and facilitate STD intervention efforts, the participants must be technically competent in DIS activities and the disease intervention process.
Objective: By the end of the course, participants will:
- Improve analysis of cases and lots,
- “Model”interviewing and investigating skills,
- Improve problem resolution and persistence,
- Understand the disease intervention capabilities of the Lot System and be better able to teach its use,
- Learn from each other.
Methods: The course consists of lectures, discussions, interactive role plays, and group exercises developed to enhance supervisory technical skills in case management, field investigation, interviewing, problem solving and persistence.
Eligibility: This course is targeted to those supervisors and lead DIS responsible for formal technical evaluation of STD intervention activities. Priority candidates are new (within the last year) or soon-to-be Federal, state or local FLS.
Pre-requisites: Participants are strongly encouraged to have completed the appropriate modules in Passport for Partner Services. STDIS should be completed within the first year of employee assuming an FLS position.
Minimum/Maximum Number of Participants: The course is designed for 12 to 15 participants and enrollment will be limited to 15, unless approved in advance by PDQIB. Enrollment of fewer than eight may require cancellation of course. Local “sponsoring” agency may enroll no more than eight participants. The remaining slots will be opened to surrounding areas.
