Mike Holmes is a Canadian contractor who has hosted a number of home improvement TV shows, including Holmes Makes it Right on HGTV Canada. If you live in the Greater Toronto Area and you’d like Mr. Holmes’ help fixing a construction problem in your home, you can respond to casting calls through his show’s website or through the mail. If you have more general questions and comments, try contacting Mr. Holmes on Facebook or Twitter or through his website.
Steps
Responding to a Casting Call
-
1Visit the Holmes Makes it Right website to find current casting calls. The website will tell you whether the show is currently accepting submissions as well as the areas that they are filming. If the show has a current casting call, you can send in your submission right from the web page.
-
2Fill out the form on the page with your personal information. You’ll be asked to include your name, email address, phone number, and physical address. They have an option for both Canadian and U.S. addresses.
- Although the show typically films in Canada, if you have a unique or interesting enough situation, you may be able to catch the attention of the producers even if you live in the United States.

3Answer the 3 longer questions at the bottom of the page. Beneath your personal information, you’ll be given the opportunity to describe your situation in detail. You’ll have 1500 characters for each question. Each submission is reviewed by story producer Brian Warchol, and if it seems unusual, unique, or compelling enough to make good TV, it’s then passed on to Mr. Holmes.[1]
- In the first box, you’ll be asked to “Describe your construction related issue.”
- The next question is, “Why do you think your situation would make an interesting or unique TV episode?”
- Finally, you’ll be asked, “How would Mike Holmes be ‘Making it Right’ for the people involved?”
-
4Upload a video of your project if you have one. At the bottom of the form, there’s a space to include a URL to a video. If you can, take a short video demonstrating the severity of the problem you’re dealing with, then upload it and post the URL along with your submission.
- In the video, film the construction site from different angles so the team can get a clear view. As you're filming each component of the project, briefly explain what the problem is and why you need help.
- You can upload your video to YouTube or any other video website, as long as it allows public sharing of your content.
