Just get some fresh whole strawberries, some chocolate chips, and various toppings of your choice. Melt the chocolate chips in the microwave, dip the strawberries in one at a time, and add toppings as you go. Dipping the Strawberries in Chocolate

  1. 1
Wash the strawberries without getting the leaves wet and pat them dry. Fill a small bowl with clean, cool water. Dip 16 strawberries in, one at a time, up to just below the leaves to rinse them off. Gently pat them dry with paper towels.[1]
    • If you get the leaves wet, they can curl as they dry and won’t look as nice when you finish decorating them.
    • You can use more or less than 16 strawberries if you want, just adjust the amount of chocolate chips accordingly to keep the ratio of berries to chocolate approximately the same.
  2. 2
Melt chocolate chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals. Put 1 1/2 cups (260 g) of the chocolate chips of your choice in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave them for 30 seconds at a time, stirring with a spoon after every interval, until they are totally melted.[2]
    • Be careful not to burn the chocolate chips. Reduce the intervals to 20 seconds if they are almost all the way melted but just missing a couple of chips.
    • Some common types of chocolate chips you can use are milk chocolate, dark chocolate, or white chocolate.

Tip: You can also color white chocolate so you can dip the strawberries in any hue that you want. Mix food coloring into the melted white chocolate a drop at a time, stirring as you go, until you get the color you want.

  3. 3
Dip a strawberry in the melted chocolate to coat it almost to the top. Hold the strawberry between your fingertips by the stem. Lower it carefully into the bowl of melted chocolate until it is covered about 3/4 of the way to the top. Slowly pull it up out of the bowl and let the excess chocolate drip off back into the bowl.[3]
    • If you are making a larger batch of chocolate-covered strawberries, you can keep the melted chocolate warm in a slow cooker while you work.
  4. 4
Cover the strawberry in other toppings before the chocolate cools. Work quickly to add toppings to the strawberry, if you want to do so, so that they will stick to the chocolate. This is why it’s important to just work with one strawberry at a time.[4]
    • Have all your toppings ready to go so you can just dip each berry in them immediately as you go.
    • Put the berry on a plate or baking sheet lined with parchment paper or wax paper if you don’t want to cover it with toppings.
    • It's best to serve these the day they're made. If you want to store them, however, keep them in the fridge.

Adding Toppings and Chocolate Drizzles

  1. 1
Roll the strawberry in crushed nuts for a traditional topping. Crush some nuts of your choice and put them in a small bowl. Hold the dipped berry by the stem and carefully roll it from side to side in the nuts to cover it.[5]
    • You don’t have to cover the entire strawberry in nuts. If you want, just dip the tip in or cover only one side.
    • Examples of nuts you could use include peanuts, pistachios, walnuts, pecans, and almonds.
  2. 2
Cover the strawberry in mini chocolate chips for additional chocolate flavor. Put some mini chocolate chips in a small bowl. Hold the chocolate-covered strawberry by the stem and gently roll it from side to side in the bowl so some chocolate chips stick to it.[6]
    • Use a different flavor or color of chocolate chips from the chocolate you covered the strawberry in for more variety. For example, if you covered the strawberry in milk chocolate, you could dip it in dark chocolate chips or white chocolate chips.
    • You could also use a different type of chips, such as caramel or butterscotch chips.
  3. 3
Dip the strawberry in sprinkles or colored sugar to decorate it. Hold the chocolate-covered strawberry by the stem and dip it in a bowl of colored sprinkles or sugar. Mix different colors in one bowl or dip the berry in multiple bowls with different colors to make different designs.
    • Use shaped sprinkles, like hearts or stars, to add a special touch.
    • You can also set chocolate-covered strawberries on non-stick paper and then sprinkle the sprinkles over top of them to coat just one side.
  4. 4
Coat the strawberry in shredded coconut for a tropical twist. Grate some fresh coconut or buy pre-shredded dried coconut and put it in a small bowl. Hold a berry by the stem and dip it in the bowl to cover whatever part of the berry you want with coconut.[7]
    • You could also do this with small slices of other kinds of dried tropical fruits, such as pineapple or mango.
  5. 5
Top the strawberry with crushed cookies or candy for extra sweetness. Crush some cookies or candy of your choice until they are in small pieces and crumbs. Put the pieces and crumbs in a small bowl and dip a chocolate-covered strawberry in them, holding it by the stem, to cover the berry.[8]
    • You could use chocolate chip cookies, Oreos, Snickers bars, mints, or candy canes to do this.
  6. 6
Place each berry on non-stick paper after adding toppings. Set the berries on a plate or baking tray lined with wax paper or parchment paper so the chocolate can set. Let the chocolate cool at room temperature until it hardens.
    • Put the strawberries in the fridge for 10-15 minutes if you want to speed up the process.
  7. 7
Drizzle the berries with melted chocolate after the chocolate sets. Melt some chocolate chips of your choice and put the melted chocolate in a squeeze bottle or a plastic bag, then snip the corner of the bag off so you can squeeze the chocolate out. Squeeze the chocolate out of the bottle or bag and drizzle it over the strawberries to add a final touch.
    • You can also drizzle the chocolate carefully from a spoon, it will just be more difficult to make precise lines.

Tip: Try out a variety of combinations of toppings and drizzled chocolate to make each strawberry unique. For instance, you can leave some strawberries with only toppings, some with only drizzled chocolate, and some with a combination of different toppings and drizzles.

  8. 8
Draw letters or designs on the berries to personalize them. Spell out a word by drawing a letter on each strawberry and then arranging them in order. Draw designs like hearts or other shapes.
    • For example, you could spell out your significant other’s name for Valentine’s Day and draw hearts on any leftover berries.
    • You could even draw eyes to turn the strawberries into little creatures of some kind. Create a blob for each eye with white chocolate, then make the pupils with dark chocolate.
