There are four bottles in Ocarina of Time that can be collected all throughout Hyrule. These bottles can contain helpful stuff that can aid Link on his quest to adventure!

Steps

  1. 1
Go to Kakariko Village. You can get the first empty bottle as a child by helping a woman in front of the Kakariko Graveyard collect her chickens. Return the seven chickens in their pen and the woman will reward you the bottle.
  2. 2
Go to Lon-Lon Ranch. Again as a child, play the Talon’s Cucco Game at Lon-Lon Ranch. All you need to do is to find the 3 chickens different from the rest. You’ll win a bottle with Lon-Lon milk once successful.

  3. 3
Go to Lake Hylia. The last bottle that can be obtained as a child can be found in Lake Hylia. You must retrieve a bottle sunk underwater by Princess Ruto. This bottle has a letter in it and once you deliver this letter back to King Zora in Zora’s Domain, he will let you keep the bottle.
  4. 4
Go to Hyrule Field. As an adult Link this time, find and defeat the 10 Big Poes across Hyrule Field. Defeat them while riding your horse using your bow. Bring your defeated poes to the one-eyed ghost in Hyrule Castle. He will be inside the first door on the right coming from the Hyrule Field.

How do I defeat the Poes if I don't have Epona or the bow?

You actually can't—arrows are the only thing that can kill them, and they move too fast to do it on foot. You get the bow in the forest temple, and you can get Epona as an adult anytime after you get Epona's Song as a child.
